FAQ

What is Lolita fashion?

Lolita fashion is a Japanese street fashion based on Victorian/rococo era clothing. There are many different ways to wear Lolita but they all fit similar aesthetics. A basic Lolita outfit generally includes a dress or skirt, a petticoat, a blouse or cutsew, knee/over-the knee socks or tights, cute shoes such as mary janes, a bag, a headdress (such as a bow), and other accessories (jewelry, wrist cuffs, etc.). It may also include cardigans, boleros, jackets, boots, gloves, and wigs depending on weather and personal preferences. A person (male or female) who wears the style is called a Lolita.

Why is Lolita fashion more difficult for tall people?

There are many different sizing issues with Lolita. Many Lolita companies only offer one size, and as most of the big Lolita brands come from Japan, their clothing is generally meant to fit girls with a small structure. This can make it difficult for tall or plus sized people to wear the fashion. Tall lolitas generally have issues with the dresses/socks/sleeves not being long enough and shoes not being big enough. Tall lolitas also often have larger structures which can cause fitting issues in the bust/back/shoulders of the dress.

Can I wear Lolita fashion if I am ____cm tall?

Absolutely. There is no such thing as being too tall for Lolita. In fact, many people love the way tall people look wearing the fashion because having long limbs makes you look even more elegant. Don't let your height stop you from wearing heels either!

Where can I buy items for tall lolitas?

There are many brands and indie brands that have tall friendly options or offer custom sizing. Check out the "Where to Buy" tab for lists.
